Andrea Smith - a regular at Meon Springs who learnt to fish here - has been selected to compete for the England ladies Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships in Canada later the year.
"This is my first experience at fishing in a Commonwealth competition and I feel very honoured to have been given this opportunity," said Andrea.
The event is being held at Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada. Some 16 teams - around 80 anglers, both men and women - from across the commonwealth are taking part.
The event is to be held from 28th of August to the 1st of September, with part of the event held on the spectacular riviere du Diable.
Unfortunately, Andrea and the other members of the team have no corporate sponsorship to cover the event. So Andrea is being creative and is selling some angling accessories in the Meon Springs tackle shop to try and raise some cash.
"With no corporate sponsorship, I am looking for support to help fund the training and trip," said Andrea, who is running a number of fund raising events. You can find out more here and here.
