At Meon Springs we're passionate about introducing people to fly fishing and helping more experienced anglers improve their skills. It doesn't matter if you've never picked up a rod before. Our instructors are on hand to show you the ropes and tell you everything you need to get started. And if you've fished before, our mentors are always happy to share their share knowledge and help you develop your angling skills.
Designed specifically for novices, our Experience Days provide everything you need to get started in fly fishing. You’ll receive professional tuition and friendly advice throughout the day. And if you’re lucky, you may even leave with a couple of trout.
Our Fly Fishing Experience Days are held on Tuesday and Saturday throughout the year. You'll learn how to put a rod, reel and line together and attach a fly. You'll be shown how to cast making sure that your timing and rod movement is just right - all with constant feedback from our instructors.
And once you've got to grips with casting, you'll learn about fly selection, retrieval and how to play and land a fish. Then, you'll be free to fish for the rest of the day. But don't worry! Someone is always on hand to provide help and encouragement if needed. It really is one of the best introductions to fly fishing around.
The Experience Day includes everything you need to go fly fishing. All tackle and equipment, an Environment Agency (EA) day licence, two trout to take home and fish credits if you don't catch your bag, a fully tutored morning, with up to no more than three others, plus support and questions answered throughout the day. All you have to do is turn up.
Aimed at those anglers who want to know more, you’ll work with our instructors to brush up on specific skills such as casting, catching and retrieving fish, and fly selection.
These hour-long sessions will give you one-to-one instruction in any area you want. They're designed specifically to help you untangle any problems and put you on a path to success.
One of the most popular One to One Session is the Casting Analysis. Experience tells us that casting is simply an application of principles. Know the principles and deliberately practicing them will bring excellent results. However, without understanding the principles fully and without right practice, bad habits will result. On a Casting Analysis, our instructors will observe your cast, identify what is working well and what is not, to help you find the feel of a perfect cast.
